description:
Young men preparing for a race at the Harvest Festival. Written on the back of the photo is "Another scene from the Harvest Festival. See the feathers on the one young man's legs - They are preparing for a race." Gertrude Van Roekel noted "Clothing is as light as possible for the race. The men have some body painting. Mocassins are worn because they are lighter-weight than shoes. Feathers are glued to the men's skin to increase their speed. One man has eagle feathers attached to his head. These feathers are especially valued." Each man is holding an Aspen branch.
