Ship 'C.S. Holmes' in the ice, Arctic , Alaska. The 480-ton Holmes, built by Hall Bros. in 1893, served as an auxiliary ship for Capt. Roald Amundsen Arctic expedition, landing the famous explorer and his aviator, Lt. Oskar Omdal, in Wainwright. The schooner also delivered the planes for the expedition at this isolated point within the Arctic circle. North Slope County, Wainwright.
