A general scene at the autumn harvest thanksgiving fiesta called "go-gee-a-a," a corruption of the Spanish word for knife (cuchilla). (A rock in the area resembled a knife blade.) The site was the spot for the San Juan Pueblo Indians and the early home of the Jicarilla Apache Indians prior to their reservation assignment. The tents, which replaced the tepee (tipi), all faced the east, a customary practice. These encampments are grouped by families and were held in respect by other squatters. Families would sometimes move in and stay for many days prior to the festival.
