Anita Carmillo and her mother baking bread in an earth oven. Identified as Miss Hunter, Anita, her mother (Navajo). Married into Cervera's family (Anita Carmillo), front. The earthen oven was an adoption from their Pueblo neighbors. The opening of the oven is facing the baker who has a long-handled paddle in her hand. She lays the loaf, ready to bake, on the paddle and places it on the clean, pre-heated oven floor. When the oven is filled, the opening and the chimney-hole are closed off to retain the heat for baking.
