Dr. Richard Stucky DMNS Curator of Paleoecology and Evolution removes more dirt from around the stegomastodon that was found at Weiss Gravel Pit near Holyoke,Colorado. The stegomastodon is an extinct proboscidean which lived 1.2 to 6 million years ago. It stood 2.8 metres (9 ft) tall and looked like a robust version of the modern elephant. It weighed about 13,000 lb.
