Bougainville Island, Cape Torokina. Typed on envelope "LST 553 beached at the tip of Cape Torokina. The landing strip was torn up by native laborers under the direction of Australian officials and piled where it is for shipment out to Australia. The matting in the foreground was removed from the Torokina Bomber Strip, which lies about 2 miles inland from Cape Torokina. July 1949, CJ Johnson."
