description:
|
Tohono Oodham (Papago) men made rope out of a'ur, agave, or lechuguilla. The fibers were moistened and then pulled into a fluffy bunch and rolled into cord on the spinner's thigh. After graduating from Columbia University in Anthropology, Ruth Underhill went study a group of Native Americans in southern Arizona. Through her scientific research she was able to preserve the original language, poetry and songs of the Tohono Oodham (Papago) people.
