description:
|
A Devil kachina who carries dead person's bones around with him. A round head painted red with green and yellow spots. The eyes and mouth are made of cornhusk rings. The body is ashen-white with clay-painted wood and a cloth robe. A painted cloth ruff fastened to twigs and a cloth skirt representing a rabbit skin blanket. It carries a yucca leaf whip. The Hopi recognize approximately thirty-six major supernatural beings or deities. Masao rules the earth's surface, which he allotted to the Hopis, and the underworld, where he terrifies all as the diety of death.
