The people use the syrup for making the wine and make jams from the pulp. After graduating from Columbia University in Anthropology, Ruth Underhill studied a group of Native Americans in southern Arizona. Through her scientific research she was able to preserve the original language, poetry and songs of the Tohono O'odham (Papago) people.
