In 1941, Edward Gregory, a student from Colorado State University discovered the anterior portion of a Plesiosaur skeleton in the Benton Formation near Fort Collins, Colorado. A complete flipper, 49 vertebrae, and a few ribs were discovered. The rock hammer is shown to get a comparative size. This specimen is cataloged as CMNH 1609 or EPV.1609.
