description:
|
A tipi pole framework with women seated inside. The log house is in the background. Tipi originally was made from long, straight aspen poles and 50 yards of canvas sewn together. It was used for fiestas or temporary living quarters. Miss Hunter, the Anglo, was a government field nurse working in the homes. Notice that the Indian women evaded the picture by turning their backs or covering their faces. Jicarilla Reservation
