This is a four generation picture with the three women wearing calico dresses. On the left is Rafaelita holding her baby Lois, her grandmother in the middle, and her mother Henrietta is on the right. Gertrude Van Roekel noted that the four types of wraps worn by each generation shows the changes over time. The grandmother is wearing a wool Pendleton blanket which served as padding when riding in a wagon and as a covering at night. The mother has on a brightly colored light weight rayon shawl with fringe. Rafaelita has on a plaid light weight woven woolen shawl. The baby has on modern clothing including a coat, short dress, white stockings and leather shoes. Rafaelita is wearing oxford shoes which reflects her schooling.
