description:

The back of the photo has a title of "One Way to Travel". Alice Begay (Mrs. Dan Vigil) holds her baby Julia Rose while her son Wallace sits behind her. Alice was a Navajo who married into the tribe. Gertrude Van Roekel noted that the horse was not as shaggy as many Apache horses so she believed it was her husband's horse who was a tribal policeman. Women mainly rode horses at Fiesta time.
