Gertrude Van Roekel stated: "The mother is wearing a light blanket. The girl is wearing a stylish big hair bow and modified Apache dress. The baby is wrapped in several layers of blankets which are secured with a rope or cord. Tied in like this the babies are more likely to be passive and content. The field nurse made occasional calls on the families, especially to check on the babies. In 1925 the nurse would have ridden horseback on these calls."
