The horsemen are shown riding on a track used for the fiesta foot races. It was comprised of eleven runners chosen from each side, the Hillsmen and the Plainsmen. The winning side became the political leaders for the coming year. As they were preparing for the race, two horsemen representing the two sides, rode about carrying a red flag and a white flag denoting their group from different parts of the reservation. Stone Lake continues to be the site for this annual fall event.
