description:
|
The woman is part of a Navajo family living on the Jicarilla Apache reservation, where they were often hired as sheepherders by Jicarilla Apache families. This woman has hair and dress in characteristic Navajo style. The loom is stretched alongside a frame building, but sometimes it was in a tree. The rug was later purchased by Hendrina Hospers; it is black, white, grey and red. While Navajo camps were similar to Apache camps, some hogans were built on the reservation. Picture taken at Pine Lake.
