The fireplace, source of light, heat and cooking was built of brick and metal framework and plastered with adobe. The cupboard comprised of nails on the beams, stacked boxes for supplies, hanging bags contained dried foods. After the meal was served on the floor folded blankets became seats in a living-room type area around the fireplace which stressed story-telling by the elder of the circle. Later the blankets were unfolded for beds.
