description:
|
The fireplace is built of bricks and a metal framework and plastered with adobe mud by the woman of the house according to Gertrude Van Roekel. The fire is kept going during the day with the coffee pot always ready for hospitality and beans cooking in the Apache made bean pot for the evening meal. The mother seated on pelts to the left of the fire used the supplies on the wall for the cooking. She can control the fire with the stick laying on the hearth. The family sat around an oil cloth on the floor to eat and share news and stories after the meal.
