description:
These were the first fiesta grounds located at the village of Dulce. The earliest home of the Jicarilla Apache was on the Taos, NM, reservation until their reservation was set aside by the U.S. Government. While guests of the Taos people, they borrowed the custom of a relay race as the main feature of a fiesta. The race track was determined by the placement of four sacred stones brought from Taos. See photos IV.73-022 and IV.80-012 for more information.
