La Brea Tar Pit exhibit found in the original Fossil Mammal Hall shown during Pleistocene Epoch (2.5 million - 10,000 years ago). Rancho la Brea mounted skeletons (done by Henry Wichers) of giant ground sloth (Paramylodon harlani), Dire wolf (Aenocyon related to the smaller extant gray wolf) and saber-tooth cat (Smilodon). The mural was painted by Mary Chilton Gray showing the giant ground sloth, Smilodon, Aenocyon and Teratornis (large bird twice the size of the California Condor).
