Billy Doran DMNS volunteer removing dirt from around stegomastodon bones so that they can be field jacketed in the Weiss Gravel Pit near Holyoke, Colorado. The stegomastodon is an extinct proboscidean which lived 1.2 to 6 million years ago. It stood 2.8 metres (9 ft) tall and looked like a robust version of the modern elephant. It weighed about 13,000 lb.
