Gussie McCracken DMNS volunteer assists Dr. Richard Stucky DMNS Curator of Paleoecology and Evolution covering the stegomastodon jaw with plaster to create a field jacket at the Weiss Gravel Pit near Holyoke, Colorado. Field jackets protect the fossil so that it can be transported to the museum and the jaw can be safely removed from the matrix in the museum's fossil lab.
