The stegomastodon spine/vertabra are finally ready for applying plaster to create a field jacket at Weiss Gravel Pit site near Holyoke,Colorado. The stegomastodon is an extinct proboscidean which lived 1.2 to 6 million years ago. It stood 2.8 metres (9 ft) tall and looked like a robust version of the modern elephant. It weighed about 13,000 lb.
