Thalassomedon haningtoni fin (Plesiosaur).This is the original specimen of the cast plesiosaurs on display in the DMNS north atrium. This specimen was discovered by WPA workers in 1939 near the town of Prittchett in Baca County, Colorado. Plesiosaurs were fish-eating marine reptiles who inhabited the seas of the Cretaceous period (approximately 140-65 million years ago).
