Vigango Totems are carved from termite-resistant wood by members of the Giriama/Mijikenda people near Kiafungo in southeastern Kenya.They are erected to commemorate relatives and important village headmen. Note the material that has been attached to the effigy to make it look more life like. This view is of the above ground parts of the effigy. This artifact was repatriated to Kenya.
