description:
Zuni pottery jar from the Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico. The donor states that the pot was collected by General and Mrs. Chambers McKibbin. According to the diary of the wife, Mary Gaines Sibley, the General served at Fort Stanton and Fort Shelden in New Mexico from 1870 to 1878. Olla shaped with a dark brown underbody the pot is 11 inches high and 14 inches in diameter. The pot has multiple deer motifs with a heartline and includes large rosettes. A narrow band separates the design around the rim. There is a medium sized band including a complex design separating the top from the bottom which include two similar designs such as the deer.
