description:
From the 1978 Annual Report: Curator Mark Peterson, with the help of Dr. Alan Ackerman of Navajo Community College, spent several days working with Navajo medicinemen, Hosteen Begay and Ray Winnie to bring to life Navajo astronomy. This was the first time ever sky lore of any Indian tribe was documented in this way. Work has begun on a Planetarium program to consider the beliefs of the Navajo people concerning the sky. Messrs. Begay and Winnie are among the last of their people to fully know and understand the night sky in such an ancient and traditional manner.
