description:
Also called Pumpkin kachina, squash shaped mask painted green with black stripes, flat body also painted green. Patun or Squash Kachina, is a wawarus or runner kachina who challenges men to race. If a man wins, he gets prizes such as dried peaches, corn, or piki. If he loses, Patun whips him with his yucca whip. Kachinas pay for whipping young men by sending rain for germinating crops. Called Paatangkatsina in Hopi Dictionary.
