description:
This Kokopelli, or Humpback Flute Player, is carved from a single piece of wood then mounted onto an ovoid, cross-cut, section of root or limb. This base is 2.5 cm to 3.0 cm thick. The kachina is wearing: long white trousers; a white jacket with a collar, button-down front, and geometric trim around the bottom edge; and a pair of brown moccasins. All of these are painted wood. Around the wrists, knees, and across the body in bandolier fashion are sashes made from black commercial yarn. In the right hand it carries a crook (staff) with feathers attached to the top end. In the left is a blue dance rattle. The mask is black and white with red ears. It is topped with feathers and a small braid of red, white, and black yarn. It is in an active dance position. On the front right side of the base is carved, "'96 ARH".
