description:
The subtropical forest that developed on the Denver Basin Paleosol (55 million years ago). Continued uplift of the Front Range occurred sporadically in a tropical landscape. This scene shows a river cutting down into the brightly colored soil. A subtropical rain forest lines the bank. Crocodiles and aquatic plants fill the channel and a pair of hippo-like Coryphodon slowly browse their way along the shore.
