description:
Saddle (Southern Cheyenne catalog#AC.1019A), Saddle Blanket (Southern Cheyenne, catalog# AC.3413), and Crupper (Crow, AC.6921F). The Saddle is wooden covered in rawhide with one stirrup still attached. Rawhide fringe decorates the pommel and cantle. The saddle skirts have painted geometric decorations in green, yellow and red outlined in black. The saddle is attached by painted rawhide strips. The Saddle Blanket is made of canvas and hide with beaded geometric designs on a white beaded background. At the end of each strip coming down is rawhide fringe with bells tied on. The blanket is lined with cloth. The Crupper fits over the back of the horse and is supposed to keep the saddle from slipping in steep terrain or extreme riding conditions. The two side pieces of rawhide are trimmed on the edge with light blue beadwork with stripes of dark blue, red, and green. A wide piece of beadwork just before the end piece has outlined triangles with a red and blue cross in the middle. The end piece has a four point star pattern and is edged in beadwork on the bottom. Long fringe trails from the end piece. The two pieces hanging down on each side are rawhide covered in red cloth with spoons attached for decoration and sound.
