description:

Snowmastadon Excavation, Ziegler Reservoir, Colorado; Far left Snowmass Water & Sanitation Department Representative Joe Enser; Middle (orange helmet) DMNS Volunteer Frank Sanders; Second from right (with shovel) DMNS Vice President & Chief Curator Kirk Johnson; Far right Gould Construction Foreman Kent Olson. This may be the only excavation where construction workers worked side by side with DMNS volunteers to remove the largest number of fossils in a short amount of time. Bulldozer drives deftly removed tons of top burden while experienced volunteers sifted through the dirt. Some drivers said they could distinguish when the blade hit rock, bone, or wood by the way "it felt".
