description:

L-R Cody Newton student and aide to Ian Miller DMNS Curator of Paleobotany and Head of the Earth Sciences Division and Ellen Jones DNMS Volunteer holding tusk. This may be the only excavation where construction workers worked side by side with museum volunteers to remove the largest number of fossils in a short amount of time. Bulldozer drives deftly removed tons of top burden while experienced volunteers sifted through the dirt. Some drivers distinguish when the blade hit rock, bone, or wood by the way "it felt".
