Close up of a bone with unusual markings assigned Field # 67.004 shown in situ that was found with the "Clay Mammoth" catalog #EPV.60704. This bone was extracted by Dr. Dan Fisher Mastodon/Mammoth Expert from the University of Michigan, Hendrick Poinar Visiting Scientist McMaster University - Canada, and Jeff Pigati Visiting Scientist from the USGS. In just seven weeks, crews from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science unearthed more than 4,500 fossils and identified 20 different vertebrate animals. This preserved series of Ice Age fossil ecosystems is one of the most significant fossil discoveries ever made in Colorado. The site is estimated to be between 45 and 150 thousand years old.
